This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a Title I school, and it’s almost impossible to receive funds to purchase equipment for my dance team. More than eighty percent of these students receive free or reduced price lunch. They come from a predominately Hispanic background. Most of my students are overweight and need the resources to get motivated about fitness and extracurricular activities. With economic status of my students, it is very difficult for them to pay outside studio and competition fees so I pride myself on being able to give them the studio experience from their local public school. I am asking for support to continue building my dance program and to encourage my students to pay more attention to their overall health and wellness. My goal for the Apple Watch and the iPad is to allow students to create digital fitness profiles so that they can keep track of things like heart rate, steps taken, miles walked/ran, etc. My students also need the bleacher seats to keep them comfortable during football and basketball games as most of our time is spent in the stands. The snacks and drinks will be used for game days to keep them hydrated and replenished during long practice and game days.
