My Students
A diverse and energetic group of about a fourteen 3-K students arrive in my classroom every morning with still-open minds and a thirst for new knowledge and experiences. As they begin to navigate the routines and rhythms of the classroom, I get the unique opportunity to try and instill a lifelong love for learning in each and every one of them. As any parent or teacher of three-year-olds can attest, they can be loud, loving, creative, cranky, and confident - all at once!
My 3-K students and their families want and deserve a chance to flourish in an often challenging environment.
Over three-fourths of my students and their families are experiencing the challenges of low-income households. For many of the students in our school, their time with us represents a welcome part of their day - a time where they feel safe, appreciated and included in a community of learning. Every new school day affords us opportunities to rise and build upon our success.
My Project
Our students spend over an hour every day exploring classroom Learning Centers where they investigate different topics and content areas as individuals and small groups. Keeping these centers full of engaging activities and reading materials keeps the students involved and piques their interest in topics they may just be learning about. Providing each Learning Center with a variety of relevant picture books for students to interact with is the goal and focus of this project. Students who "make friends" with books early on will transition more easily to advanced reading and develop a lifelong appreciation for books and literature. Please know your donations will be shaping and sharpening curious young minds!
