Help me give my students tools to practice their reading, writing, and speaking. They need motivation to read, write, and share their thoughts and ideas.

My Project

My students are new immigrants from countries all over the world. They are newcomer students whose language is way below grade level. Their parents do not speak English, so they are not able to practice the English language at home.

Learning English can get a little bit boring.

It can be repetitive for many newcomer English learners. My students see their grade level peers and sometimes feel that they are so far behind, that they will quickly feel unmotivated. I want to give my students fun tools to use that they typically don't use in their classroom to make sure they get excited to learn and stay motivated.

I plan to use these tools to give and maintain motivation to my newcomer students, so that they can have fun and feel motivated with many options to practice and show their learning. I want them to use the reading phones and highlighter strips to help them focus on their decodable text and hear themselves read each word clearly. The doodle pads will be a fun tool for them to use for writing, instead of using a pencil and paper.
