This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My seventh- and eighth-grade students are an exuberant bunch of teens who love to socialize and have fun. My students are diversity personified—from painfully shy to audacious, from studious to silly, from spoiled to neglected, from being treasured to experiencing trauma.
After 18 months of being isolated from their friends and teachers, they are still struggling to navigate the return to school and academics.
Although I can't solve their problems, I continue to do my very best to provide my students with learning opportunities that will excite them and allow them to focus on better days ahead.
My middle-school engineers love hands-on projects and building structures and creatures out of upcycled materials. To keep our makers making, we need tons of craft supplies such as paper tubes, colorful tape, and a craft materials library. The marshmallows, gumdrops, and spaghetti will be used to make creative towers for engineering competitions in class. We need ink for our printer so students can continue to print stickers and make buttons with our button makers. The bookshelf is crucial because we don't have any shelves in our classroom to house our growing STEM library.
