My Students

When my students enter their school they are not only there for learning. Most students eat 2-3 meals there a day. Most stay for after school clubs. Many of my students ask to stay after school to help in my classroom. Our school is a home to many. We are a family. Our district is 100% free and reduced price lunch and in an urban setting.

My students spend so much of their time at school and deserve to have the best classroom and learning environments!

My students truly have some of the kindest souls and such an energy for learning. They inspire me every day. Life is relational and being able to invest in these children's lives is the greatest blessing!

My Project

The fifth grade curriculum in Kentucky focuses on the history of the United States of America. We are currently working without a program/textbook. This means we find all of our material from other places. I need more literature books for read alouds and for students to read. We cover everything from exploration to the 20th century. That's a lot of time to cover, so we need as many books to help us along the way as possible!

Help us make our social studies class come to life!

One way I like to bring social studies to life in our class is by looking at primary and secondary sources. My students can see actual examples of historical documents and better understand why they were created and how they effected our nation. By reading secondary sources we can get a second hand view of historical events and different point of views. I want my students to be the most informed citizens in our country and understand how our country became to be the way it is today!
