This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere. My 4th grade class is in a high-need, low-income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge. Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who comes to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure the students have access to the materials they need, at all times, as well as use those materials in a way that will facilitate higher learning and achievement.
The greatest predictor for reading success and building lifelong learners is access to books.
When students have access to a great deal of quality literature, they are more apt to become readers for life.
I want to give my students the best, clearest access to the books I have in my classroom as possible. While I have hundreds and hundreds of books in my classroom, they are not always easy to see. Sometimes they get lost in the sea of books and just need to be highlighted for the students. This rotating book storage case will do just that.
The books that can be placed in the storage case will be far more visible to the students. They will know just what books we have and will be able to get to them more easily. They will have access to many more books, getting them into their hands, and reading them. This will help my students to become better readers who love to read.
