This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third grade in an inner city elementary school in North Baton Rouge, La. We are a Title I school, and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I teach students who are eager to learn but are not provided the resources that other students have.
Many come from a single-parent home, and a few are being raised by grandparents. I tell them the first day that they arrive in my classroom that we are now a family and will remain so until the year is over. I want each one to know that they are loved and that they are wanted.
My Project
I have been working hard to help my students in math. Recently, my students have been doing a lot of application problems that involve a lot of writing. The problem is that many of my students do not have printers at home, and the printer in my classroom is out of ink. It would be so much easier for my students to have a printer readily available to them to print out their research and final papers.
It is important for my students to be able to print a wide variety of sources from the Internet as textbooks often fail to "give the whole story."
I hope that my students can discover new information through their own findings.
