Help me give my students books, books and more books! These books were selected by the students, with no input from me. This is what they asked for, and when students ask for books, we get them!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love that the makeup of our student population is diverse. The student body is diverse in gender, race, socio-economic status, academic ability, and interests. Teaching such a diverse population of students has challenged me to be a better educator and a better person. I have been invited into their worlds- worlds that were once unfamiliar to me and I love it!
They have personal stories that could become the next YA anthology!
My students here are strong-willed, talented, focused, and ready to use their voices. This makes teaching them a joy. They know the power of their thoughts, their voices, and their lives.
My Project
Independent reading occurs daily in my room. Some teachers say they can't squeeze it in, but in my room, we try our best! Students are required to read every day at the start of our class period, and so it's best that I give them choices, and even better that I give them what they want.
Theses are titles that students have personally requested.
When students request books, that means they want to read, and that is a desire we want to fulfill! Each Friday, in my room, I share a chapter from a new book (First Chapter Fridays,) and it would be awesome to have debut books that students have recommended.
