I teach grades Kindergarten to 5th grade Reading and Writing in a diverse urban area of the Philadelphia School District. I have a variety of learners, all of which have different abilities and needs to reach their potential. I want to instill a love for reading so that it does not feel like a chore. My students come to school eager to learn and I want that to continue through their academic career and beyond by providing a variety of culturally responsive text that also help to develop their character.
Many of the books that I have accumulated over the years are old and the content does not allow for my students to be able to think critically and reach their highest potential.
Please consider helping to give my students the opportunity to become more independent readers with the use of these books. These books will be used as a part of our curriculum.Students will be able to read, analyze, discuss and write about the text. They will have many opportunities to read to themselves and their peers building fluency, stamina, comprehension and confidence.
