My Students

Our high school is a large urban school with about 1900 students enrolled. We recently went through a "split" having a new high school open nearby which took about 30% of our student body. Our school is over 100 years old and steeped in tradition. In fact, the words "defend the tradition" are printed on the entrance of the school in a bold marquee. Our unofficial band motto is "make your mothers proud" and these students do just that every day!

My Project

Our jazz band is a popular ensemble at the school and has a unique and specific sound. We often have 2 guitar players in the ensemble and most of these students are coming into the world of jazz from a rock or more contemporary background and can struggle to get a quality sound on the instrument using their small student guitars with the wrong strings and pickups. Each year we have relied on students to provide their own instrument but would like to get a dedicated instrument with jazz strings and the jazz specific sound we are looking for our students to expand their horizons on.
