My Students
Our school is one of a few in the nation pioneering High School Academies. Due to the highly diverse school population, students bring various learning experiences, background knowledge, and cultural views to the table.
Not only does my High School house the English Language Learner (ELL) program, but also the Early Childhood Center (ECC) for teen parents. Most of my ELLs have experienced trauma most people cannot even fathom. They arrive to this country with so many unique skills and strengths though!
My Project
My ELL students need books to read during the holiday season. A regular reading practice is proven to improve a child's educational success. For ELLs, reading books is a great way to gain exposure to English vocabulary, develop comprehension strategies, and read with family members.
Most of my kids struggle through the holidays because their families do not live in the USA. I have identified a variety of graded-level books to engage kids at all different English levels. I hope that by giving each of them a small book with a kind message inside, they will feel the love this holiday season.
