Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During the 2018-2019 school year, I was a student teacher in a first grade classroom. I always thought I was going to teach kindergarten until I met a class that changed everything I knew. My students were smart, passionate, bubbly, and eager to learn. I fell in love with my students more than I thought ever possible. They are the reason I decided to become a first grade teacher.

Come this school year, I will be a first year teacher in my very own first grade classroom.

I will be teaching at a Title I school and hope to inspire my future students. My goal is to give them a place where they feel safe and loved, as well as a place where they are excited to learn. I hope to be able to give them all the resources I can to help them reach their potential.

My Project

Having a classroom library full of books will help motivate my students by encouraging them to read by choice and for fun. With these books, I will read to my students, we will read the books together, and they will read independently. These books will give my students the opportunity to chose from a variety of books as well as learn how to pick a just-right book for them to read.

These books will also give my students the opportunity to take books home to read.

Reading books at school and at home will help my students become better readers. A classroom library supports reading and writing instruction. I will use the books to teach my students reading strategies and skills. They will learn strategies such as reading long and strong, how to tackle hard words, and how partners can work together to build good reading habits. I hope to get my students to fall in love with reading and be excited to pick up a book.
