it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have been reading the book Speak with my English language learners for 15 years now. This is the perfect book to start the school year with since the protagonist, a young girl named Melinda, is also starting off her first year of high school. Melinda has one class that makes her feel safe and that is Art class. While reading this book, my students learn important vocabulary, we talk about high school social skills, they learn about the importance of speaking up when something bad is happening. They also complete the same art projects as Melinda and they find a home in my class.
