My Students
As someone who teaches mostly high school seniors in Government, most of my students have had the majority of their high school experience impacted by Covid. They were only sophomores when the pandemic began and lost the last quarter of that school year to hastily designed distance education. Then last year as juniors they were either on a hybrid come to school every other day schedule or on full distance education the entire year.
As they begin their senior year in full time in person instruction, many students are still missing large chunks of school due to contact tracing and exclusions.
My Project
With many students facing exclusions much of our course work is online and we access the internet even during in-person learning. While most students have a phone or other internet devices some do not, and some of the other available devices are old and too slow to allow students to use them efficiently. This computer will allow students that do not have an internet device to access the internet for make-up work and research.
Specifically, as a government teacher this help address the following standard:
SS.9-12.FL.12. Practice completing important financial, academic, and career documents, including but not limited to: loan applications, scholarship applications, job applications, and resumes.
Students will use this computer to research and track their personal finances including credit scores and bank statements. They will also create resumes to prepare for mock job interviews to ensure they are college and career ready.
