Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My favorite quote comes from Eleanor Roosevelt, "You must do the thing you think you cannot do." This quote applies to so many of my children. One of my goals every year is help my students learn that hard work, even in the face of adversity, will lead them to success.
We have great kids and great teachers.
Many of our students are lower income and rely on our school library and our classroom teachers to provide reading material and other resources that they may not have access to at home. So many of these kids are hungry for knowledge and great books.
My Project
I am starting a new after school book club for third and fourth grade students. To that end, we are seeking fifty copies of a variety of books in order to give students access to different works of literature each month. For the month of December, we will be reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Students will read the book, discuss it, and keep the book to add to or begin building their own personal library.
Studies show that children who reread favorite titles not only become better readers, but become lifelong readers for pleasure.
For that reason, it is my hope that adding books to their personal libraries after reading them at school will help our students fall in love with reading and not simply see it as something they must do to get by in school and later on in the workforce.
Your support of our school and this project is appreciated so greatly and will go so far in continuing to build a community of learners and students who adore reading great books!
