My students need sensory items to create a safe environment where they can go and safely let their emotions out, so they can be fully present for learning in the classroom.
My students are part of a program for students with Emotional Behavior Disorders(EBD). An emotional disability is characterized by an inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships, consistent inappropriate type of behavior, display of depression, and display of unreasonable fears. These students struggle with social interactions, emotion control, anger management, aggression, self-esteem, impulsive behaviors, and many other serious issues.
In this program of 80+ students, we build a loving and safe community for students that need extra help to succeed in life.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. As the students make gains in the classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. We celebrate little wins together each day.
Our school strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is motivation and support from role models.
My Project
The items that I have requested will help 80+ students in our program! We have a wide variety of student needs that these sensory items can benefit all of the students. These items will be used in our first official sensory room for our special education students. This project is needed so the students can learn how to be in control of their feelings and body.
The weighted lap pad, light filters, Big Joe bean bag chair, squishy stress toys and boxing set will help the students relax and express their feelings in the appropriate manner.
The kid trampoline and peanut balls will allow the students with energy to release that energy in an appropriate manner, instead of making impulsive decisions. The stress/fidget toys will be used as a tool to help students with their feelings and anxiety. The light covers and large bean bag will help students that need a calming area, without triggers, to escape to. All of the wonderful sensory items will be used for the students that struggle with Emotional Behavior Disorders.
