I have a very diverse group of kiddos. Some Hispanic, some African American, some Caucasian, some low, some high. But their differences are what make our group so much fun and so unique.
We reside in a rural area of Little Rock, Arkansas in one of the oldest schools in our district.
By our school being one that has been around so long, we have several students whose parents and grandparents have graced our hallways as students years ago. So community is very important to us. Area churches help out with school supplies and parents volunteer their time whenever possible. We are a little country school with a great big heart!
To say my kids are stoked about participating in our schools Living Wax Museum is an understatement! In celebration of Black History Month, our third graders will research, dress the part and give a speech about an African-American inventor, mathematician, scientist or engineer. I want to see what quality of work my students can produce on their own (without the help of a family member), so they will work on their presentation boards at school, only...which poses a slight problem.
Since our students come from low-income homes, they will need assistance with the necessary supplies to make these presentations as awesome as they are.
Yes, we have school glue and glue sticks, but glue stick adhesive gives way after a short while, school glue soaks the paper and makes it buckle. Rubber cement will do the trick! Brand new CRAYOLA markers...enough said! Having a Cricut available will allow the students to print neat, uniform letters, symbols and objects for their board using a myriad of fonts. They will be able to individualize their boards and produce something they will be truly proud of!
