Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States, not too far from the richest district. Entering sixth grade, they are already years behind their more affluent counterparts in both math and reading.
We don't let their zip code dictate their future.
Our goal as a school is to get our students to and through college. Our students are three times more likely to graduate from a four-year college or university than the low-income average. Our students work hard and have fun.
My Project
I rarely use my lunchtime to eat lunch or as a free period. Instead, I always enjoy taking 8-12 students upstairs to tutor them on math concepts they need help with. Although most of my students want to spend their lunchtime getting extra help, incentives and fun never hurt to encourage students to learn. The Franklin Sports Double Shot Rebound Pro Game will do exactly this! Not only will this game provide my students with some exercise during their rigorous day (7:30 am-4:30 pm) that never has gym class, they will love playing it while also learning math and improving their skills!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
