Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a special education teacher for students that have severe communication deficits. They are not able to communicate with words. They require a picture exchange language support curriculum. I teach them how to use pictures, with words printed on the bottom of the picture, to communicate. With tablets of the words, they will have a voice output. Instead of just pointing to the word on a paper they will use the tablet to touch the word and it will literally be their voice. The words are mostly core vocabulary like I, you, like, no, yes, want, some, all, more, and help. Then there are words that they would use a lot in my classroom like eat, up, down, friends, please, food, etc. Then I added folders in the app that have academic uses and personal interests. This gives them a wide range of options for communication. They will be able to request items, label activities, label objects, comment on topics, ask a friend a question, and more. They will be able to meaningfully participate in the classroom. The most exciting thing about these tablets is they will help them interact with their same-aged peers in a language everyone can understand.
