Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm a Providence Schools teacher with a mission to bring a high-quality music experience to every student that walks in my door. My school services over 1,000 students a year, 70% of which are Hispanic. Many of these students are learning English alongside their studies. I've seen in my classroom how students flourish in music class, and how it's brought students together who are new to the school and trying to adjust to their new norm.
Every year, the 200+ students who take a Music Introduction class spend at least 4 weeks learning the basics of guitar, alongside a year-long dedicated Guitar class.
The best way to ensure these students have a quality experience that inspires them to keep making music is with up-to-date materials and tools. Tuners serve a vital role in this, making sure the sounds the instruments produce is consistent and accurate. Tuners serve a daily use, and having enough for students to use at the beginning of class ensures that they are able to continue with their studies in a timely and productive fashion.
