Give Gifted And Talented Students The Classroom They Deserve
My Second Grade Gifted and Talented Students need an Elmo document projector and two powerful air circulators to have a comfortable learning environment this year!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $1,119
This project is fully funded
I teach second grade in an low income, struggling urban community in New York. I am lucky enough to teach a group of 12 Gifted and Talented students for the second year (I was also their first grade teacher.)
Last week, I was excited to begin teaching challenging lessons immediately because the students are already familiar with the classroom systems. However, after only the first week of school I am encountering serious problems in our new room that have affected student learning.
The first pressing problem is that it is 95-100 degrees all day long in my classroom. We have no air conditioning, and while I have bought three fans, it is still incredibly hot and loud. I am asking for help to buy two powerful air circulators so my students can be comfortable and hear me teach.
The second problem is that due to room constraints this year, I am also having a very difficult time teaching where everyone can see me. I created a wonderful, cheap white board by using shower-tile from Home Depot. But, unfortunately, I am using a large, cracked overhead projector that blocks the views of some students no matter how I arrange the room. By the time everyone has crowded to one side of the room to see what I have put on the board, the "flow" of the lesson is seriously compromised.
I am asking for help to buy two powerful air circulators so my students can be comfortable and hear me teach. It would make such a difference in our lives now and later in the year!
I am also hoping to receive an Elmo projector. An Elmo would help me teach quickly and effectively…it’s the Cadillac of overhead document projectors! I dream of being able to teach as quickly as my students’ minds move!
Please help my Gifted and Talented Students stay engaged in the classroom! They are so bright and eager, but in the current situation I feel they are not working to the highest potential because of things that are out of their control. These students are amazingly smart from all different backgrounds and cultures and it is truly a joy to teach them. I am hoping you can help me do my job better.
Thank you for considering my requests.
