My Students
My students jump at the opportunity to boost their learning through detective work. They will become detectives as they navigate through text to find text evidence!!!
I have a diverse group of learners who are excited to become better readers and excel in second grade.
They enjoy learning through different modes, and in our classroom I am able to meet the needs of my learners through whole and small group instruction. These materials will allow me to beef up my small groups and focus on the "power standards" that are so crucial to student success in reading. My students will love using the practice cards as they become detectives and find evidence in the text. They love to learn and all deserve an equal opportunity to become successful. My students have a strong sense of community in our classroom and are excited about their peer's success as much as their own. This project will provide my students with the resources needed to differentiate necessary skills to master content in all areas.
My Project
I plan to use the Boost reading comprehension skills with up to 6 students at once during my small group instruction. The center includes 8 teaching kits that each focus on specific comprehension skills—from recounting stories and points of view to identifying the main topic. There is a tabbed storage pocket with a step-by-step lesson plan on front and a reproducible activity on back, plus 6 copies of a fiction or nonfiction reading passage and 12 vocabulary cards. Having these resources along with the daily comprehension practice cards will ensure that I am meeting my students where they are and that I'm able to push them to their full capability as we progress through the second grade school year!
