Our school addresses the needs of Kindergarten aged children with Autism in a high needs community. In September of 2009 our doors opened for the first time. The site began with limited funding and maximum needs. Our students have a range of developmental, academic and social limitations.
Reading is difficult for a lot of children but especially for students with Autism. Not only is teaching children with Autism how to read difficult it can also be time consuming. Studies have been shown that children with autism learn best with hands on or very colorful activities. Books with pictures, audio books, and touch and feel books all work well. The Leap Frog books and tag school readers are a tool that can help my students begin to read.
Leap Frog tag readers is a touch and talk device that helps bring books to life. It helps children become readers at their own pace and helps build confidence and a love for reading. I also need a handful of books that can be used in my classroom so my students can start reading.
You can make it possible for my students to begin to read and gain confidence in themselves.
