My Students
I teach in a high needs school in Brooklyn, NY. My students come from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Despite these differences, my students give their all to be sure they understand any topic that is given to them. Next year, I will be teaching 5 science classes (6th, 7th, & 8th grade).
My classes will consist of 5 ICT classes, which combine special education and general education students.
In my classes, we are always exploring. However, with exploration comes writing. My students are expected to gather information and take notes while exploring. Often times, students do not have the basic school supplies (such as a pencil or paper) to keep their information neat and organized.
My Project
Many of my students do not have the ability to bring basic school supplies with them to class. With these materials, all of my students will have something to write with and on. Students will have the ability to print any of their projects for my class or others.
Students should not feel that they do not have the same as other students.
In an attempt to minimize the embarrassment a student may feel if they do not have their school supplies, my closet will be open for ANY AND ALL students to take from as they need. This is especially important in Middle School, as students begin to notice these differences. Pens and pencils will enable students to take notes and complete activities during class. Paper will be used to print out students various projects, as well as handouts necessary for students to better organize their notes. Staplers and staples allow students to staple any work or handouts directly into their notebooks. Colored pencils, markers and chart paper will be used for students to create their own posters to hang around the classroom.
More than half of students from low‑income households
