Give 100+ Science Students the Chance to Design Their Way to Success

The cost of motorized design kits is $805, including shipping and <a target="new" href="" onclick="g_openWindow('', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

The New York City middle school performance standards say that students should "Design ... and improve a System: Develop an understanding of the way systems of people, machines, and processes work; troubleshoot problems in their operation and devise strategies for improving their effectiveness." I teach more than 100 seventh grade science students that need the chance to succeed at this standard. Our school is lacking in science supplies to complete hands-on labs and investigations, but your donation will allow my students to accomplish the design standards outlined above. In a school that constantly struggles to raise test scores, where almost every student receives free lunch, and where almost every student is eager to succeed, your gift can make some of the most exciting learning happen. Your donation will buy our science class a full set of Capsela Motorized Building Toys to be used in an annual three-week design unit. Capsela Motorized toys have been used by the New York Hall of Science for years to teach students about electric currents, gears, torque, and design. A class set of Capsela motors and attachments will allow my students to have a hands-on experience with design that is sure to excite and energize them. You can see more about the kits I am requesting at this website Please take a look at the Capsela kits. With these supplies, students will be able to design an endless array of moving, working machines. They will be able to troubleshoot their creations and improve them using more than 15 science concepts that we have learned this year. This hands-on design activity will both give students the chance to create and practice what they have already learned. With your gift, over 100 students will get hands-on experience designing and thinking critically. These invaluable skills can provide fuel for their future growth for years to come.
