My students need this equipment to allow us to be properly equipped to play and grow as a team. Having portable nets will allow us to play when we do not have access to soccer fields.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students from the South Bronx are rising athletes on the girl's varsity soccer team. These young ladies are some of the hardest working students I have ever met, balancing school, sports, clubs, internships, and family commitments. Though we have not had many of the basics to work with such as a full field to practice on, soccer balls for each player, or proper workout attire, these athletes do everything with such joy and passion that they are happy just to play and even made it to the playoffs last season!
It would be fantastic if the girls could have basic soccer equipment to help us succeed this season and to ease their worries of having to purchase materials on their own.
Many of the girls started playing for the first time when our team was formed in 2015 and it has been amazing to watch their passion and talent for the game grow. These student-athletes have done some remarkable things in the Bronx and I cannot wait to see how far they will go this year and beyond.
My Project
This project will supply my female athletes with basic equipment needed to play on the varsity soccer team. Having portable nets will allow us to build skills when we do not have access to soccer fields in the Bronx.
Soccer balls, shin guards, and goalie gloves are materials that many of my students struggle to purchase on their own.
It has been amazing to watch girls who had never played before develop a passion and love for this sport. Their passion goes beyond the soccer field and leads to positive participation in the classroom and school community. After 3 seasons, many of our original materials have become worn away. With these new materials, many more students will have access to properly play without worry. My student-athletes appreciate all the support!
