Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a librarian at an elementary school that has a very high poverty rate. I have been a classroom teacher for 10 years, but this is my second year promoting literacy all day long!!! The children at my school are very diverse, coming from every great corner of our earth. I have all grades of children, from Kindergarten to grade 8, coming to check out books from the library.

My library budget has basically been cut to nothing this year because of citywide budget cuts. I will be able to purchase 50 books for the whole year for a school of almost 1000 children!!! My students love coming to the library and reading and are sooo excited when new books arrive for them to check out. I only have two Judy Blume books in the library and since I have told the students that Judy Blume was my favorite author when I was in elementary school, they have been begging for books by her. Any woman who grew up reading Judy Blume, knows what a huge impact her books had on your early years. I would love to share that impact with my students.

I am asking for 21 books by Judy Blume to add to our school's library. In her books, Judy Blume answers all those growing-up questions that your are dying to ask, but feel embarrassed to. Ms. Blume hooked me on reading with her books and will hook a new generation of readers if given the chance!!!

Please pass on the magic of Judy Blume to the students in my school. The books will be read by all and for years to come!!! Judy Blume books are timeless and the messages in her books help empower young girls. By donating these books, you will be helping young girls find their place in the world.
