This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a basketball coach Jersey City , New Jersey. Currently I have 18 girls on my Varsity and JV team. The girls on my team are hard working inner city young ladies that deal with issues that many girls their age should not have to deal with. Many of my girls take the bus to school and barely can afford to pay for transportation to and from school. Due to a budget cut in Jersey City, the sports teams have no money for shirts or sneakers. I have tried to reach out to local stores for help with no one willing to help. Many of my girls are wearing sneakers that are 1 to 2 years old. I am very proud of how hard each day my girls overcome challenges in their lives and give there all no matter what the circumstances are. They come from different areas of Jersey City and each day show me what it means to me mentally and physically tough.

My Project
The sneakers will allow my girls on the team to play to their best potential. If I was able to pay for all of my girls sneakers, I would ,but due to budget cuts we do not have any sneakers. Many of the girls are playing with sneakers that are torn and old. These sneakers will give my girls the confidence and ability to play the game to their best ability.
By donating these sneakers you will give my girls the self confidence that they lack due to the board of education cutting all the money for our program.
As we play other teams we see many of the other teams with new sneakers and clothing. The anger and sadness they have I use to fuel their motivation to try our best in each game and practice. I teach my girls the lessons learned in basketball will stay with them for the rest of their lives. The girls will truly appreciate the donation in making our season special. Thank you!
