I have wanted to start this after-school group for quite some time now. Since virtual learning, Covid, and the pandemic started, I have seen an overwhelming amount of students that need more support with social emotional learning. The goal of this group is to help the second grade girls that join consider themselves young ladies. If the group is a success this year, I want to expand and offer the club to more grade levels. Many of the female students at our school could benefit from a group such as this to work on building their self esteem and self confidence, work on team building and friendships, and even work on academics and other interests.
The funding of this project will provide dresses for the girls to wear on the days we have our after-school sessions and for any other special occasion.
Each girl picked out their dress specifically. The goal of this club is not only to get the girls more involved in their community, but to work on leadership, team building, social skills, games, activities, Skypes with various guest speakers and companies, as well as visitors from around the area. The club can also help teach the girls how to help others such as the younger students at school, and the people in our community. I want to encourage local churches, military from Ft. Bragg, police, firefighters, high school and college students, lawyers, and people in other professions to get involved with the club also. I think the world of my students, and I know this "Young Ladies" group will be a wonderful success. I want the girls to feel empowered and feel good about themselves.
