My Students

I teach over sixty-five 2nd through 5th grade gifted students in a suburban Title I school in a high-poverty area. These kids have a thirst for knowledge and love exploring many topics. They represent many nationalities and are all excited to learn and grow in my class. My students need the advanced curriculum I provide, but have the tendency to burn out reading assigned texts as opposed to what they personally choose to read. In this day and age, it is very important for them to be "global citizens" and, to do that, they need to know as much as they can about the big world around them. If they are not able to travel, reading is their ticket to learn about the world and the people that live in it!

My Project

I teach students from a suburban school in middle Georgia. Many of my students have never left Macon and have little to no involvement in activities outside of our school and their little neighborhoods. I need to help them expand their horizons and I think the best way to do that is through books! In finding chapter book sets that are popular, I've discovered that most of the main characters are males. My girls like them, but need more books they can relate to and are a fun read.

By providing my sweet girls with more chapter book sets that have fun, relatable female characters, I can help them learn that they are just as important as boys while growing them as readers.

The two sets I would like to add to my library have hilarious girls as their main characters and can provide hours and hours of reading enjoyment as they are multi-book sets. These high-interest books will be a fantastic addition to my little library at just the right time---as our kiddos FINALLY get to return to school in a more "normal" way and can check out classroom library books again!
