Help me give my students dignity when it comes to their health. Our girls need easy access to feminine hygiene products (dispenser, tampons, sanitary napkins).
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in a rural minority community. Lots of our students have big dreams, but don't have access to enough opportunities to unlock their true potential.
While our funds and resources are limited, our student's potential and drive are certainly not.
Students are eager to see real-world applications of what they are learning in school that extend beyond the town limits that have confined many of their parents. Many of our students strive to be first-generation college, if not high school graduates.
My Project
Due to issues with feminine hygiene (and access to tampons and sanitary napkins) many of our students leave school early or come out of class, missing instruction. I keep extra pants in my office because so frequently girls come to me with period soaked pants.
Most feminine hygiene products cannot be purchased with EBT/food stamps, which forces many of our girls to use wads of toilet paper and napkins during their time of the month.
Not only does this directly affect our young women's self-esteem, but it also affects them academically by taking them out of class. This is a simple fix by providing students easy access to these products. In 2021, access to tampons and sanitary napkins shouldn't be a privilege. This dispenser is hands free for extra protection in the time of COVID-19.
