Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want to succeed in school and in life. I am a teacher in a high-poverty school where my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Help me bridge the gap.
My students come from a low-income status, the inner-city, and have special needs.
I also have students that experience homelessness. I need to do all I can during school hours to help these students progress to well-developed, smart young men and women. To effectively teach students in a wide range of levels, I need many resources.
The majority of the students at the school come from low socioeconomic households. Students and parents do not have the financial means to provide essentials. Since Hurricanes Irma and Maria, things have become even tighter for parents. Help me bring in the necessary materials to help my students succeed in school.
My Project
I teach an awesome group of middle school students. My students have the challenge of having special needs, but are also mostly low income students on free or reduced-price lunch. They love to explore, investigate, and enhance their own growing knowledge.
I started a girl in STEM club at my school, called Girl Code.
It’s been a work in progress but I have been able to get a good group of girls to join and are very interested in learning via STEM. Since this is a brand new club, we do not have a lot of materials. We are building the club up slowly and are trying to gain the necessary materials to help our girls become involved and interested in a STEM field. The coding markers, Ozobots, Makey Makey, LEGO Boost Toolbox, Ultimate Coding Kit, coding stickers, and coding books will help the, learn the fundamentals of coding. Once the girls learn the basics, they can move on to the 3D printer, and filament; which will be used to help the girls learn about complex G-code while building fun and cute models they can use. Please help me build our girl in STEM club and open the doors to a STEM career for our girls.
