This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am truly lucky to be an elementary teacher. My students become my children and I would love nothing more than to bring a smile to their face when giving them a holiday season to remember! Every year, we make gingerbread houses and watch the Polar Express movie with popcorn and cocoa in our jammies. My plan is to transform the classroom on two separate days into a gingerbread wonderland where will read different versions of the story and compare and contrast them. Then we will culminate the activity with decorating our own gingerbread cookie and then making a gingerbread magnet. Day 2 we will board the Polar Express. We will read the book and then watch the movie in order to compare and contrast the similarities and differences. We will talk about the story elements and even write an extended version of the book/movie. What will happen next? The bells and backdrop will help with the transformation while the cookies, popcorn and hot cocoa will enhance the movie experience. Who said you can't have fun and learn in December?
