Help me give my students construction paper, ink pads and picture pockets to complete a memory book for their family graduation gift from kindergarten.
I teach in a small, rural school with the student population less than 450, for all of K-12. We have a very high percentage of families who qualify for free and reduced price lunch which also qualifies us, school wide, for Title I. With a $200 annual classroom budget, I am able to buy things such as construction paper, writing paper, tape, paint, markers and such. I then rely on writing grants to keep my classroom materials fun and engaging.
My students are 5 and 6 year olds that absolutely love school and I feel it is my job to make sure that excitement continues to grow throughout their kindergarten year.
When I am told by parents that their child is sad that they have to miss a day of school, I secretly grin from ear to ear. I want my students to beg for more time at school and I plan to continue finding new ways to do my best to make that happen.
My Project
My students learning and growth in kindergarten is something that needs to be shown off to their family members. During the school year, as each student creates projects, many are saved for a Memory Book to be gifted to the family when their kindergartener graduates. It is a keepsake that parents love and often times display 17 years later at their child's high school graduation.
I want my students to be extremely proud of their accomplishments.
The construction paper I have asked for is the last of the colors we need for a 25 page book to be made per child. The ink stamp pads are for building words with ABC stamps and other decorative stamps I already own and the magnetic pockets are for a picture of each student in the class. My kids love this project!
