Help me give my students hands-on experiences needed to help prepare them for future employment in the math and science fields and igniting a love for science and math exploration through STEM kits.
Currently, there are 114 students grades 2-12 in the Academically Gifted Program. Gifted enrichment services are provided to the gifted students in all schools throughout the parish. In order to qualify for the gifted program, the students were evaluated and met the criteria set forth by the state.
Gifted students expand their thought process and take risks when utilizing hand-on science and math exploration.
These students are highly motivated learners and perform at levels higher than their regular education peers. Academically gifted students need critical and logical thinking lessons to prepare them to compete in math and science fields in the future.
My Project
The STEM kits and materials will provide hands-on critical and logical thinking activities for my academically gifted students in our schools. The reusable supplies will be shared so all gifted students will benefit. The Large Fun With Chemistry Set will provide numerous opportunities through multiple Chemistry activities that utilize the materials within the kit. Also, the Owl Pellet Kit provides exploration of owl diets, prey bone structure, and owl habitat. All other kits provide fun learning activities that promote higher order thinking and doing.
STEM activity sets stimulate higher-order thinking skills and promote interest in math and science fields for academically gifted students.
The kits provide materials for enrichment lessons that target objectives not addressed in the regular classroom setting.
With these kits students will be able to actively participate in an enrichment lesson and are more likely to retain the concepts learned through hands-on discovery. Research states that students will remember and understand concepts by competing hands-on activities rather than simply listening to a lecture.
