My students need 4 Chromebooks to use independently in small groups to become more proficient in technology, while applying skills and strategies they are learning in the whole group class setting.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is a sweet group of students who come from various backgrounds. They are curious and imaginative and love to learn! I want to be able to help them reach information and knowledge beyond the classroom through literature and other forms of media. They are 21st century leaders who are thirsty for knowledge outside traditional textbooks. I hope that with this donation, their need to learn from more stimulating and enriched literature and multimedia will help them master the skills that I aim to teach in science, literature and writing.
My Project
I teach a combination class of fourth and fifth grade students. If that wasn't challenging enough, they are also gifted and high achieving students! It is amazing seeing how much these students can achieve while providing them with the right tools to challenge them, and provide real-world experiences to the subject matter they are learning about.
Imagine students learning about finding the area of a surface, but instead of doing textbook problems where they merely use the formula a = l x w, they are using blueprints of a house on Google drive to find the area of a wall.
Next they they have to find out how many paint cans they would need to cover that area. Yet that's not all, then they use a website where they sell paint, to select the colors they would use.
With your help, we can get a set of Chromebooks that would allow this type of activity to happen on a daily basis. In my class, I don't want students asking, "Why are we learning this?', because I want to show them firsthand how the skills and standards they are learning can apply to the real world. Technology in the classroom is an important part in making that happen.
