My students are digital natives living in a limited digital world!
I teach fifth grade, high ability students in a magnet program in a school with a high special needs population.
Since our program is less than 4 years old, we are looked at differently than other students in our school. The students in our school are very caring and compassionate towards our special needs students, but the perception with our kids is that they are "nerds" and they are not as socially accepted within our school community.
Through technology we feel that we can bring all learners together and also hook the teachers into using technology that most are unfamiliar with. By using the webcams and cameras the students will be able to collaborate on grade level projects and learn more from each other while doing so. This will also help the teachers become more aware of emerging technologies in the classroom. The teachers may not want to collaborate with us, but once they become aware of our webcasting and what can be done, we think they will.
Students today are training for a majority of jobs that have not been created yet. It's very important to utilize technology to enhance student learning. If this proposal is approved,Through technology we feel that we can bring all learners together and also hook the teachers into using technology that most are unfamiliar with. By using the webcams and cameras the students will be able to collaborate on grade level projects and learn more from each other while doing so.
