My Students

Crease a paper for each time you have helped another person. Think of each line as a representation of the person. Unfold it. See the ‘people’ intersecting? Each time you help another person that effort crosses into many other lives... The students need supplies to help them safely ‘intersect’!

The students are seventh and eighth graders who have high cognitive abilities.

Many receive free or reduced-cost lunch. They are the best and the brightest that our city has to offer, yet many of the students have very limited opportunity to extend their creative minds beyond the doors of our classroom. The students are active members of our schools Community Volunteerism Club. The mission of the club is to help students develop an understanding of their ability to contribute and impact their community. The students volunteer their time either by giving up their lunch periods or by meeting for weekend events, such as for community clean-up projects. They help to improve their community by taking part in their choice of community service and enrichment projects such as “Energy Efficiency Team”, “Resources Recyclers Team”, “Caught Doing Something Good Team”, “Charitable Event Planning Team”, and the “Community Clean-up Team”.

My Project

In order for the students to reach out to the community, the students need community service supplies: safety cones, work gloves, t shirts, iron-ons, and an iron. For the students to feel protected, unified, and to be appropriately identified, they need t-shirts, iron-ons, and the iron. They also need the gloves to protect their hands. They need safety cones to secure work areas. The desired learning outcome is to increase work-related skills: interactive communication, leadership, self-directed learning, and creative problem solving.

A good school accounts for the students academic needs: A great school accounts for their emotional and social development as well.

I would like to think that I take part in making our school great by helping our students understand their holistic responsibility to the world around them through volunteer service opportunities. It may take a village to raise a child, but the child needs to work in the village in order to truly feel as if they are part of it!
