This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My name is Christina! I am one of the head coaches of the OIHS girls team. Our team is made up of a large diverse group of girls who are often coming from cultures that do not promote girls in sports, let alone girls in leadership roles. Our goal as a girl's program is to elevate girls confidence and leadership, especially in spaces that are often not directly built or created for them.
Girls in general often lack access to basic necessities and in sports it is an even bigger barrier.
One of those basic necessities are sports bras. Sports bras have been a major need for our girls. Having access to sports bras will help our girls feel comfortable, and although it may sound small, it does create a huge difference in how girls show up to the space.
The ask of such equipment like pinnies, cones, socks, and soccer balls will help solidify access to such equipment that we lack access too and will help elevate our practices and game days.
