Help me give my students flexible and comfortable classroom seating to enjoy reading! The Big Joe Flip Lounger can seat at least 3 students a piece, and the Portable Literature Stands will help students find high interest non-fiction!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students consist of both sixth and eighth graders, many of whom lack the vocabulary and strategic skills needed to access text, and become successful students and citizens of the world.
Culturally diverse, and diverse in what makes them comfortable and focused, my students are in need of flexible seating choices that will encourage them to collaborate together and focus on the lesson.
Both my classes consist of students whose reading levels span from below 6th grade level to above 9th, and just as each student's abilities differ, their love of reading, and they types of texts they enjoy differ as well. Our school houses a large ELL/ESL population as well as an Autistic Spectrum Disorder program, and many of the students in those programs are also in my class.
Our school is an inviting community of parents and teachers who strive to provide students with opportunities to showcase their artistic, musical, athletic, philanthropic and academic talents throughout the year. We provide multiple opportunities to strengthen our students ties to the school and community by engaging staff, students and parents in events such as the Titan Challenge, Talent Show, Math and Literacy Nights.
My Project
Additional flexible seating throughout the Big Joe Flop Chairs will encourage students to choose books and magazine to read during independent reading time.
These fun zebra print chairs are the perfect incentive to keep students focused during independent reading time while the teacher (that's me!) is conferencing with other students.
The organized magazine racks will help students see the various magazine choices (Scope, Junior Scholastic, READ magazine and National Geographic) that are offered to encourage student choice and interest.
Individualized assignments will be provided to help students practice reading skills while they read their favorite books and magazines.
Previous donations have helped us create flexible seating around the classroom to encourage students to relax and read. This project adds to that success. My rule is that if you sit in the "Wild" chairs, that you MUST have a book, so students who normally would try to avoid reading will pick up a book just so they can sit in the chairs. Miraculously, the power of reading kicks in and all of a sudden, they are immersed in their books and/or magazines and are begging me to let them get "Wild with Reading" again the next day!
