Getting Unstuck in Engineering and Computer Science

My Project

Engineering and computer science are difficult subjects, and my students frequently get stuck and need help. This project addresses two strategies to get them unstuck when they need help. The first one is explaining their problems. Often when students go through the process of explaining what they are stuck on they get unstuck, because they need to think it through to explain it. The ducks are the students' buddies that they can explain their problems to and hopefully think through them while they are at it.

With the status cards, I can look at the class and immediately see which students urgently need help.

I plan on mounting one of these on each desk in my classroom. Students who are working along fine will keep them on green, and students who are really stuck will flip them to red, so I can help them immediately.

With a class of 30 students, utilizing these strategies will make it much easier to keep all of my students working and also keep student frustration at a minimum.
