I have 22 wonderful Kindergarten students who love to learn and grow together. We love to be together to make observations, listen to stories, and work with partners or in small groups. We learn by engaging in both literacy and math stations and are also gifted 90 minutes of purposeful play each day. My students love to work in groups and be in charge of their learning. They enjoy finding a space in our classroom to explore and learn.
We are a walking school because our neighborhood is so densely populated, students walk, ride, or carpool to school.
Some of my favorite memories of elementary school was sitting close together on the rug and listening to my teachers read stories like Charlotte's Web or Frindle. Having a classroom rug will help students in my classroom gather together to share ideas, practice social skills, enjoy literature together, and provide a space for academic discourse. I've created many different learning spaces and incorporated flexible seating, but a classroom carpet would anchor our space and create a team atmosphere. A classroom carpet would provide yet another age appropriate space for students grow as they make choices and take ownership of their learning.
