Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are at a dual language elementary school. The incredible 36-second graders I get to teach are all bilingual students whose first language is Spanish and are learning English. These students take classes both in Spanish and English - Math, Science, and Spanish Language Arts are in Spanish with me, while they take English and Social Studies with another teacher. The students are using their first language to help them engage with the English language and become fluent readers, learners, and students. I serve in a low poverty community, where the resources lack and it puts them at a disadvantage. This does not have to be the case for these amazing students.
My students have a huge learning gap that just keeps getting bigger and they all fall across different levels in English, Reading, Writing, Math, and Science.
They still come to school, work hard, and do their best no matter what obstacles they face. These students are motivated to learn and will give their all. They have made incredible progress since the beginning of the year, but they just need more resources to succeed.
My Project
These are materials that I would like to get for my classroom. Pillows and clipboards will allow students to be able to write and sit on the carpet to copy from the board or even work more efficiently while in centers and independent reading/partner reading.
My students will absolutely have a blast having their own pillows and clipboards to work with!
My students had received donated pillows by another teacher last year when I was able to fund my carpet project, but they have unfortunately broken apart and no longer are comfortable or clean to use, so they have had to be thrown away.
Help my students receive materials that will allow them to feel at home and safe to work. I am trying to have this project funded ASAP. Before Thanksgiving would be great. Please help, read, and spread the word!
