Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students on free or reduced-price meal plans. We have many English Language Learner (ELL) students at our school. Over half of my students are ELL students. Our students come from working families and families that speak other languages at home. Some parents are not able to communicate in English with us, but we do have Spanish-speaking translators on site.
Our staff is very caring and committed to providing a nurturing, fun, and engaging classroom for all our students.
We want students to know that we will be there for them and give them as much as we possibly can. One great thing about our school is that we have one-to-one devices, using iPads or Chromebook computers. For many students, this is the first time they have been able to use and engage with today's technology.
My Project
Learning about our environment and those animals around us is really important for my students to learn about. This project is for books about how important our Earth is and how the animals that live here impact it. Books help my students learn about places and animals that they may not be familiar with. These books will be used for small group reading as I have chosen books at many different levels in hopes of getting all students engaged. The books will also be used for independent reading so that my students can explore these resources on their own.
Our world has so many places for my students to explore that these resources can be very impactful for their learning in science.
The books about the coral reef and the desert can teach my students about the animals and habitats of those places. They will be able to learn how important those plants, trees, and animals are essential for our amazing Earth.
I have also chosen books about Earth Day and one titled "Earth Smart How To Take care of the Environment". Books like these will teach my students how to take care of our planet and why it is important to do so. I am very excited to get these resources so we can move forward with our Earth in mind!
