Getting to Know and Become the World's Greatest Artists
My students need new art books that teach about great artists, how to draw, and that tell funny stories related to the lessons and activities I have planned.
I remember as a little girl, going to the library to find another book about a great artist in the world. I checked out art books multiple times because they made me laugh and taught me new things about art which I loved at such a young age. I want my students to be able to connect in that way too.
My students range in ages from 5 to 11 and there are about 650 students at my school who would benefit from these books.
My students are of every denomination and ethnicity and all levels of poverty and wealth.I believe our school is unique in that way which allows all types of children to interact and learn from one another. It is a great environment to learn and grow up in and our students love coming to school.
My Project
These books will give the students an opportunity to learn about artists through fun books with cartoons and funny anecdotes. Most of the books I have in my classroom are hand-me-downs and falling apart. These books would get the students excited to read again. The drawing books I have listed will teach students how to draw and learn on their own - without my guidance. This fosters independence and problem solving which carry over into all areas of their lives. Lastly, there are books listed that I will use specifically with lessons and projects I have designed. These books will enhance those lessons and connect with those students who love hearing stories...and who don't love to hear a good story!
These books will enhance the learning in my classroom because students will be excited to read non-fiction stories about famous artists we study in class.
Students will look forward to grabbing a new book to learn how to draw without having to stare through all the scribbles and torn pages of an old drawing book. My art library will be one that I too will enjoy visiting again, and like I did when I was a little girl, I can pick out an old favorite and laugh again at the stories they tell.
