This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come excited to learn in two languages, as part of our Spanish Immersion Program that was adopted ten years ago to meet the need of our cultural and linguistic diversity in our district. Six years ago, parents got organized and successfully implemented uniforms at our school. This has helped our students to stay focused on learning and it has provided a positive learning environment for each student.
I am enriched and blessed by my students' diverse cultural, linguistic, and economic background.
More than 85% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
All of my kindergarteners students get the amazing and unique opportunity to start learning in English and Spanish from K to 12. Close to 25% of my students' first language is English, and 50% of my students' first language is Spanish, and 25% speak another language. They share the journey to be able to graduate from high school bicultural, bilingual, and bi-literate; it all begins in my kindergarten classroom.
My Project
Our school used the 3Rs, Be Respectful, Responsible and do the Right thing as a way to reinforce our school wide rules positively. My kindergarteners are learning how to be students in a positive and meaningful way. One student from my classroom gets recognized weekly for following one of the 3Rs and at the end pf the quarter we have a school wide celebration. Recently, our electric cutting machine got funded and now I am ready to reinforce our 3Rs and make our learning a positive inviting one to support them on their path to be the best students they can be! Incentive can be made to motive and reinforce expected behaviors.
The mats and the vinyl will be use to create positive learning quotes related to our school wide expectations and customized incentives for following the 3Rs throughout the year.
In additional, my students can be part of the creative process of designing positive quotes for our hallway, bathroom and cafeteria as a reminder for everyone in a positive and creative way. A positive school environment fosters a positive learning attitude for all. This project will have a positive impact for my current and future students emotionally, socially and academically as they learn how to be respectful and responsible students starting in kindergarten.
