Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine walking into a classroom where every student is creating, building, engineering, and collaborating? Our Makerspace provides this opportunity for every student at school. Students look forward to the day they are assigned to come explore and imagine endless possibilities.
Our school is a Title 1 school with over 800 students who all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, and in some cases, dinner.
One fourth of our student body is considered homeless. Walking through the building, you would not know these statistics. What you will see are eager, smiling faces that are excited to be at school. Although our students may come from difficult home lives and backgrounds, they deserve to be exposed to endless opportunities. Poverty should never limit a student's ability.
My Project
In my class, my students are able to explore STEM skills through hands on activities. They accomplish these activities through collaboration and creativity.
I see around 800 students a week.
I have one class from each kindergarten through 5th grades. Making sure I have differentiated instruction and activities for each grade is a difficult task.
The STEM kits I am asking for will provide my students grade level appropriate options for them to choose from. They will be working on skills that they will be able to complete independently or in small groups, giving me then opportunity to work with others during their time in my classroom.
