My biology and AP biology students are really one of a kind! They are inquisitive and thoughtful with a thirst for knowledge. Many of my students qualify for the free or reduced price lunch program and are the children of very hard-working blue collar families. I want them to have the tools that they need to be able to succeed in school and in life.
These students bring me joy and happiness every day of the school year.
Being able to open their eyes to all of the possibilities that lay ahead of them is one of my greatest joys and struggles. Some of my students have a hard time seeing what possibilities they have in life due to growing up in a very secluded rural area. I want to create as much of a hands-on learning environment as I can to make class engaging and to make the learning stick.
My Project
Fly tying kits will help me to teach my students a new skill as well as help them to participate in a great past time; catch and release fishing. With this kit I will teach my students how to tie several different types of fishing flies and then go to our local lake and teach them how to fish with the lures they made.
Get these students outside the classroom and into the world!
Help me to help them love nature. By teaching them about conservation I am hoping my students will be better global citizens of this quickly changing world. In addition, teaching them a new hobby will allow some of them to find joy in the simple things in life.
