Help me give my students fidget toys for their sensory needs, snacks for their "Reinforcement Store," clocks and money to build on their functional academic skills, and timers to ease transitions.

My Students

I have an amazing group of students that call each other "my buddy" and encourage one another. Our days will be filled with building functional academic skills, independent living skills, vocational skills, arts and crafts, cooking, dancing, sports, socializing, and more.

Our special education class has 8 spectacular students with a wide range of strengths and capabilities.

Our class is packed with a variety of personalities and cultures that energize everyone. This will be a great year and I am very excited to start off strong!

My Project

Timers are a great tool in Special Education - it shows the students how much time is left before their next activity or break. This can encourage on-task behavior and ease transitions. The clocks will be used to teach functional academic skills like how to tell time and independent life skills like how to follow a schedule. The money will be used to teach functional academic goals like identifying and counting money, but it will also be used in our token economy. A token economy is when a student completes their work, receives a token, and then exchanges the token for something they want. In our class, the token students will be working for is money.

They will be able to exchange their token, or money, by buying something they want in our class's "Reinforcement Store."

The fidget toys will be used in two ways. The first way involves each student choosing a fidget toy to use throughout the day for sensory purposes. The second use will be as items to purchase from the "Reinforcement Store" during breaks. The snacks will also be used as items in the "Reinforcement Store."
