My goal as a teacher is to do my best in teaching the students whatever information they need to be successful in the real world. As they walk into my classroom I want them to feel safe and nurtured and that I'm doing everything I can to ensure that. I teach in a life skills classroom where there are 8 students with various disabilities. Having a classroom that is warm, inviting, and calming helps them come into the room and allow them to feel like it's their home away from home.
My hope is to find and get as many resources as I can to help my students learn to the best of their ability.
This year my school is making a big focus on social emotional learning. We have a 45 minute block a day where we read books and do an activity, yoga, or a group game. The goal is for school wide acceptance and to be who you are.
These games and books will help facilitate more lessons and activities for the students to do together.
Games and stories will help students build teamwork. It will also help students to think about things before they speak. The literature that I am requesting helps model for students different behaviors and how you can handle yourself in different situations.
